Hydrophobic Magnetite Nanoparticles for Bioseparation: Green Synthesis, Functionalization, and Characterization

In this study, three types of hydrophobized alkyl-modified magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) comprising direct alkylated-MNPs (A-MNPs), silica-mediated alkyl MNPs (A-SiMNPs), and arginine (Arg)-mediated (A-RMNPs) were synthesized successfully. For purpose, the co-precipitation method was used to synthesize, octadecyl trimethoxy silane (OTMS) as a functionalizing agent. Accordingly, hydrophobic moieties connected MNPs. The (NPs) characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, CHN, DLS, zeta potential analyses. coated represented decrease in surface charge magnetization alongside increased hydrophobicity size. It revealed that alkylation process successfully performed all MNPs, but A-SiMNPs showed highest hydrophobicity. Additionally, novel A-RMNPs, most biocompatible type, A-MNPs among results indicate NPs can play an important role bio applications. However, it chains are easily contained could affect re-folding denaturation recombinant proteins.
